UNHRC

Overview

The UNHRC is a 47-member inter-governmental body established in 2006 to promote and protect human rights worldwide. It addresses situations of human rights violations, conducts the Universal Periodic Review of every Member State's human rights record, and works through Special Rapporteurs and independent experts. The Council responds to emergencies such as conflict-driven abuses, refugee crises, and threats to civil liberties. It also engages closely with governments, regional bodies, and civil society to prevent violations before they escalate. Delegates will debate pressing human rights issues, from digital rights to accountability for war crimes.
